The East Timor Autauro Island DXpedition gets underway in a little under one month for another great DXCC entity from a truly exotic location. Here’s the latest 4W6A developments.
The team has acquired a Tatanex V160E 26.5 meter high vertical antenna for operation on 160 meters. The antenna is now in Darwin, Australia, after having been shipped from the manufacturer in Germany. From there, it’s off to Dili, Timor-Leste, later this month. This represents a change, as the team had been planning on using an 18 meter Spider Beam pole as support for a 160 meter inverted L antenna. Now, the team will use the Spider Beam pole as a full-size 80 meter 1/4 wave folded monopole vertical.
There will be no shortage of antennas. Team 4W6A will be using full 1/4 wave verticals on 40, 30 and 17 meters. a 2 element phased array for 40 meters, an Australian made Com-antenna for 10-15-20 meters, a Butternut HV6V, a 15 meter dipole and a G3TXQ Hexbeam, made by a member of the team, MW0JZE. Ground conditions should be superb, as all antennas will be located near the beach.
Actual activity from East Timor, on Atauro Island, will commence on 16 September, 2011. Operation will continue through the 26th of the month. You’ll see 4W6A on all bands 160 through 10 meters on CW, SSB and RTTY, with up to four stations operational at any one time.
